It connects to a projector and runs Powerpoint flawlessly. For the price it's great. I keep this little thing in my bag for presentations. After getting used to the keyboard its a breeze to work.
SUPER ,SUPER SLOW.40 TO 60 SECONDS TO OPEN THE INTERNET EXPLORER.LOCK ALL THE TIME ,WITH EVERYTHING OPENED (IF OPENS)WELL ,IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DEVICE TO MAKE YOU CRAZY ,GO FOR IT.ENOUGH FOR ME.After reading about that issue I immediately bought here the 901 12g XP plus 8g SD ( good value.).Writing on it while downloading Skipe, many windows open ,now I have a working Laptop.Even the Geek Squad staff at Best buy told me that they are having to much claims at this Mini Cooper with an 50cc engine. From everything I had read about it,and from my own experience.RUN FROM IT.USELESS.MINUS FIVE STAR FOR ASUS. lucky for my US$ 290.00. Bought yesterday at Best Buy the eee pc 900 16g XP version.well ,sad to read the review of the product after buying it.The 80's 486's deskops for certaain runs better them this "junk".After 30 hours "Googling"for solutions and trying ,I almost throw it from my hotel window. but it does not open. Today returned it to Best Buy less 15% returning fee.I own 2 of the 7 inch series, one with linux and the other with the XP,both runs perfect.wanna know how Asus released a product that efectivelly DON'T WORK.
It is great for internet browsing, though some flash-heavy websites cause issues (ESPN.com is especially notorious). eeeuser.com is a great resource for those of you willing to learn, as it helped me immensely. While the processor is definitely a bit slow, I have managed to pack Mathematica and Matlab onto it (fancy math/science packages for you non-nerds out there), which both function well enough for my needs. Also, if you are not crazy about learning how to optimize the computer via playing with some settings, you are bound to face a lot of frustration with the eee 900.
After a few days of tinkering with lots of settings to increase the speed and battery life, I was able to obtain the computer I hoped to be using. I already own a fairly nice laptop, but it is much too large to stick in my backpack and trek around the city, which I do mostly via bicycle. Overall, if you are willing to dabble in some of the milder inner workings of Windows, you should be happy with the eee 900 as a secondary, ultra-portable computer. It's light, portable, and, most importantly for me, durable. I am a grad student in engineering in a city school. I was looking for a small, cheap-o laptop to drag across the city, and the eee seemed to fit the bill. I am pretty rough on my electronics, and the eee has already survived a few light drops and knocks, not to mention debris from food and coffee. However, it is possible to find a way to work around most of these issues and enjoy the EEE.This, however, is the EEE's biggest problem; its performance, as has been my case, is heavily dependent on the computer-skills of the user, or at least on the willingness to learn.
Those of you looking for a primary laptop, however, probably should look elsewhere. Before I begin, let me explain myself a bit. I eventually got this exact model (16g ssd with Win XP), except in black. For the most part, I am very pleased with the eee pc. Out of the box, the eee handles like a bag of bricks, especially the windows model.
Mouse clicks even for simple things can take a long time. It takes a minute for the browser to open. This is commonly referred to on forums as the "dreaded" 900 16GB. The 900 16GB model uses a slower kind of memory that the other Eee PC models. It is unusably slow. Please save yourself the frustration and buy ANY other 900 model than the one you are looking at right now.
Battery life is under 2 hours. Easy and convenient WiFi capability. She loves it and says: Pluses: Super convenient size and fun to carry with you in your purse to use on a daily basis. The decorative skins that are available for this computer make it even more fun. Minuses: Definitely a second computer. Processor not fast enough for serious word processing or serious game playing. I use mine as a PDA for organizational purposes and to kill time playing games while waiting at dr. The pre-formatted templates for organization are great.
Nice size keyboard for a mini computer. Slow to boot up. I bought it for my wife as birthday present. offices, kids appts, etc. Short battery life doesn't matter if you can plug it in at work or home.
